GARP SCR (Sustainability and Climate Risk) Exam Preparation
A two-day programme preparing candidates for GARP's Sustainability and Climate Risk certificate, the individual, portable credential in this catalogue's ESG line. Every other ESG course here trains an organisation's people to run its ESG programme. This one trains a person to hold a personal certificate that travels with them between employers, which is a different thing and the one most often missing when someone says they want to get certified in sustainability rather than trained in it.
The two days work through GARP's four SCR domains in sequence, with checkpoint questions after each and a closing timed practice assessment built to the exam's actual format. This is exam preparation, not an authorised or accredited GARP training programme; Orbix is not affiliated with GARP, and candidates register for and sit the exam directly through GARP. Anyone wanting the individual credential alongside organisational grounding will find this pairs naturally with ESG Fundamentals and Climate Risk & Scenario Analysis elsewhere in the catalogue.

Programme Agenda
Day 1, 9:00 AM - 9:15 AM
Welcome and Programme Overview
Introduction to the session, objectives, and housekeeping.
Day 1, 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM
Sustainability and Climate Risk: The Landscape
Why climate and sustainability became a risk discipline rather than a reporting exercise. The financial system's exposure channels: physical risk, transition risk, and the second-order effects on credit, market and operational risk. The regulatory bodies and disclosure regimes that created demand for this specific credential, including how IFRS S1/S2 and TCFD connect to what the exam tests.
Day 1, 10:15 AM - 10:30 AM

Day 1, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Climate Change Fundamentals for Risk Professionals
The physical science a risk professional needs, and no more: emissions pathways, warming scenarios, and why the difference between 1.5°C and 3°C scenarios changes a balance sheet, not just a headline. Physical risk types: acute versus chronic, and how each maps to asset-level and portfolio-level exposure.
Day 1, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Lunch
Day 1, 1:30 PM - 3:15 PM
Measuring and Managing Climate Risk
Scenario analysis as the exam's central technique: NGFS scenarios, stress testing, and translating a climate scenario into a financial impact rather than a narrative. Data and modelling limitations that the exam expects candidates to name honestly, including the ones vendors prefer not to mention. Integrating climate risk into existing risk management frameworks instead of running it as a separate silo.
Day 1, 3:15 PM - 3:30 PM
Break
Day 1, 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM
Green and Sustainable Finance
Green bonds, sustainability-linked loans, and the taxonomy questions that decide whether an instrument qualifies as either. Carbon pricing mechanisms and their effect on transition risk exposure. Greenwashing as a risk category in its own right, and the due diligence questions that catch it before a regulator does.
Day 1, 4:45 PM - 5:00 PM
Day 1 Close
Recap and what to review before day two.
Day 2, 9:00 AM - 9:15 AM
Day 1 Review
Recap of day one and the questions it left open.
Day 2, 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM
Portfolio and Investment Implications
Building climate considerations into portfolio construction and investment decisions without abandoning the underlying financial discipline. Sector-level transition exposure, and why a single carbon-intensity number flattens a distinction the exam expects candidates to hold onto. Engagement versus divestment as competing responses, and the case for each.
Day 2, 10:15 AM - 10:30 AM
Break
Day 2, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Reporting, Disclosure and the Regulatory Overlay
TCFD's four pillars and how IFRS S2 absorbed them. What a risk professional is expected to know about disclosure even without preparing the disclosure themselves. Reading a climate disclosure critically enough to spot where the numbers and the narrative disagree.
Day 2, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Lunch
Day 2, 1:30 PM - 3:15 PM
Domain Review and Checkpoint Questions
A structured pass back through all four SCR domains using GARP-style question formats, with wrong answers discussed in the room rather than left for self-study, since that discussion is where most of the remaining exam risk gets removed.
Day 2, 3:15 PM - 3:30 PM
Break
Day 2, 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM
Timed Practice Assessment and Study Plan
A full timed practice assessment built to the exam's actual format and difficulty, scored individually, followed by a personal study plan covering the gap between practice score and exam-ready and a realistic timeline to sitting day.
Day 2, 4:45 PM - 5:00 PM
Wrap-Up and Q&A
Key takeaways, next steps, and close.
Key Outcomes
- Explain the physical and transition risk channels through which climate change becomes financial risk
- Apply scenario analysis, including NGFS scenarios, to translate a climate scenario into financial impact
- Evaluate green bonds, sustainability-linked loans and taxonomy questions for genuine versus superficial alignment
- Identify greenwashing as a distinct risk category with its own due diligence questions
- Connect TCFD's four pillars to IFRS S2 disclosure requirements
- Score a timed practice assessment built to the GARP SCR exam format and identify remaining study gaps
- Leave with a personal, dated study plan for sitting the GARP SCR exam
Training Mode Physical / Online / Hybrid / e-learning
