Carbon Markets & Trading

For sustainability and finance staff who need to understand how decarbonization becomes a tradable asset. The course links to GHG accounting, explains offsets versus allowances, walks through Malaysian carbon-pricing context, and introduces voluntary markets.

The course covers how carbon is priced and traded, aimed at finance, sustainability and strategy staff rather than at traders. Participants work through the distinction between compliance and voluntary markets, how credits are generated, verified and retired, the main standards and registries, and what determines whether a credit has integrity. Malaysian and regional context is covered, including the Bursa Carbon Exchange and how domestic developments interact with international mechanisms. The session is deliberately clear about the difference between offsetting and reduction, and about where relying on credits creates reputational and disclosure risk under current reporting frameworks. Participants finish able to evaluate a credit purchase critically.
