ISO 9001 Quality Management System Awareness
A one-day grounding in ISO 9001 for organisations pursuing certification, and for staff inside a certified organisation who have never been told what the system is actually for. ISO 9001 is the most widely held management system certificate in the world and probably the most widely misunderstood: run well it is how an organisation controls its processes, and run badly it is a filing exercise performed twice a year before the auditor arrives.
The session covers the clause structure, the process approach, and risk-based thinking, which is the shift that most organisations certified under older versions never fully made. It closes on internal audit, management review and certification, with attention to the nonconformities auditors most commonly raise in Malaysian manufacturing and service organisations.

Programme Agenda
9:00 AM - 9:15 AM
Welcome and Programme Overview
Introduction to the session, objectives, and housekeeping.
9:15 AM - 10:15 AM
What ISO 9001 Is For
Quality management as process control rather than product inspection. The seven quality management principles. Why the standard says almost nothing about your product and a great deal about how you decide, record and improve. The clause structure shared with ISO 14001, 45001 and 27001, and what that means for integrating systems.

10:30 AM - 11:10 AM
Context, Interested Parties and Scope
Clause 4. Understanding internal and external issues, identifying interested parties and their requirements, and setting a QMS scope with justified exclusions. Determining the processes of the QMS and their interactions, which is where the process approach becomes concrete rather than theoretical.
11:10 AM - 11:50 AM
Leadership and Customer Focus
Clause 5. Leadership commitment and what auditors look for as evidence of it. The quality policy. Organisational roles, responsibilities and authorities. Customer focus as a requirement rather than a sentiment, and how it is demonstrated.
11:50 AM - 12:30 PM
Risk-Based Thinking and Planning
Clause 6, and the change that replaced preventive action. Determining risks and opportunities that affect conformity and customer satisfaction. Quality objectives that are measurable and resourced. Planning changes to the QMS in a controlled way rather than by drift.
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Lunch
1:30 PM - 2:20 PM
Support and Documented Information
Clause 7. Resources, people, infrastructure, environment, monitoring and measuring resources, and organisational knowledge. Competence and awareness. Documented information: what must be retained, what must be maintained, and the far larger set organisations create out of caution. Control of documents in practice.
2:20 PM - 3:15 PM
Operation: Planning and Control
Clause 8, the largest. Operational planning and control. Requirements for products and services, including review and change. Design and development where applicable. Control of externally provided processes, products and services, which is where supplier management sits. Production and service provision, identification and traceability, property belonging to others, preservation, post-delivery activities and control of nonconforming output.
3:15 PM - 3:30 PM
Break
3:30 PM - 4:10 PM
Performance Evaluation and Improvement
Clauses 9 and 10. Monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation. Customer satisfaction. Internal audit and what a useful one looks like. Management review inputs and outputs. Nonconformity and corrective action, and the difference between a correction and a corrective action that addresses root cause. Continual improvement.
4:10 PM - 4:45 PM
Certification and Common Findings
The certification path, stage 1 and stage 2, surveillance and recertification. Choosing a certification body and what accreditation means. The nonconformities raised most often in practice: uncontrolled documents, corrective actions that only correct, internal audits that never find anything, and management reviews with no outputs. Integrating ISO 9001 with other management systems you already hold.
4:45 PM - 5:00 PM
Wrap-Up and Q&A
Key takeaways, next steps, and close.

- Set a QMS scope with justified exclusions and map the processes within it
- Determine risks and opportunities and set measurable quality objectives
- Control documented information without generating documents nobody uses
- Run an internal audit and a management review that produce real outputs
- Distinguish correction from corrective action and address root cause
- Anticipate the nonconformities auditors most commonly raise
