Basic Cybersecurity: Fundamentals & Defensive Practices

This one-day programme introduces core cybersecurity concepts, including threat identification, network basics, and defensive practices. Participants gain practical knowledge to safeguard systems and reduce security risks.

This is the technical foundation course, distinct from the Awareness programme aimed at all staff. It suits IT support, system administrators and anyone taking on security duties without a formal security background. Participants work through the concepts that underpin everything else: the CIA triad, authentication and authorisation, network fundamentals as they affect security, common attack types and how each is detected, malware behaviour, and the hardening and patching discipline that prevents most real incidents. Access control, logging and backup are covered as operational practices rather than definitions. The session closes on where Malaysian obligations attach, including PDPA security requirements and the Cyber Security Act 2024. Participants finish with a hardening checklist for their own environment.
