Did you know breach notification is now mandatory? Since the PDPA amendments and breach guidelines took effect on 1 June 2025, a personal data breach must be notified to the PDP Commissioner within 72 hours, and to affected individuals within 7 days after that.
Breach reports are going up. MyCERT received 195 data breach incident reports in Q1 2025, up from 151 in Q4 2024, a rise of 29%.
It was already common before the new rules. Malaysia recorded 3,699 reported personal data breaches between 2017 and mid 2022.
