Agentic AI for Business

A one-day practical introduction for teams encountering agentic AI features inside the tools they already use, from customer service bots that take actions on their own to coding assistants and research tools that chain several steps together without asking at each one. An agent differs from a chatbot in one specific way: it can call tools, take multi-step actions, and carry memory across those steps toward a goal, rather than answering a single question and stopping. That difference is where the genuine productivity gain sits, and also where the new failure modes sit.

This is the hands-on business-use course, not the governance or security course. Teams who need the compliance and control side of agentic AI, including runtime security and reliability assurance, are better served by AI Agent Security (OWASP Agentic Top 10) Fundamentals and AI Agent Security & Reliability (AIUC-1) Fundamentals, which this programme does not repeat. This programme instead builds the working knowledge a business user or team lead needs to decide when to let an agent run unsupervised, when to keep a human in the loop, and how to spot an agent that has gone wrong before it causes damage.

Programme Agenda

01

9:00 AM - 9:15 AM

Welcome and Programme Overview

Introduction to the session, objectives, and housekeeping.

02

9:15 AM - 10:15 AM

What Makes an Agent Different From a Chatbot

Tool-calling and function-calling, planning and multi-step execution, and memory carried across steps toward a goal. Worked examples from tools already in daily use, including customer service bots that issue refunds, coding agents that edit multiple files, and research agents that chain searches.

03

10:15 AM - 10:30 AM

Break

04

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Where Agentic Features Already Show Up at Work

Email and calendar assistants that schedule and reply on your behalf, coding agents, workflow automation tools that chain an AI step into a trigger, and customer-facing bots that take real actions such as refunds, bookings and ticket routing.

05

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Autonomy Levels and Human-in-the-Loop Design

The spectrum from suggestion-only to fully autonomous, designing approval checkpoints for anything with cost or reputational impact, and choosing low-stakes, reversible tasks as the right place to start automating.

06

12:30 PM - 1:30 PM

Lunch

07

1:30 PM - 2:15 PM

Where Agents Fail in Practice

Tool misuse and wrong parameters, cascading errors where one wrong step feeds the next, hallucinated intermediate reasoning, cost and runaway-loop risk, and prompt injection from untrusted content the agent reads along the way.

08

2:15 PM - 3:15 PM

Evaluating and Monitoring an Agent Workflow

Testing before deployment, logging and traceability of each step taken, setting spend and action limits, and knowing when to pull a workflow back to manual control.

09

3:15 PM - 3:30 PM

Break

10

3:30 PM - 4:15 PM

Choosing the Right First Agentic Use Case

Picking a pilot with low blast radius and high repetition, measuring time saved honestly, building the business case, and the escalation path once value is proven.

11

4:15 PM - 4:45 PM

Applied Practice

Participants map one repetitive task from their own week that could be handed to an agentic workflow, identify the checkpoints a human should keep, and note the failure mode they would watch for first.

12

4:45 PM - 5:00 PM

Wrap-Up and Q&A

Key takeaways, next steps, and close.

Key Outcomes

  • Explain how an agent differs from a chatbot and where that distinction actually matters for a task
  • Identify the agentic features already available inside tools your team uses today
  • Design human-in-the-loop checkpoints appropriate to the stakes of a given task
  • Recognise the common failure modes of agentic workflows before they cause damage
  • Set up basic monitoring and limits around an agent workflow
  • Select and justify a first agentic AI use case for your own team
